Two people,one church hall,forty grievingfamilies a week.
A Place Called Here has been doing the work of a funded service with almost no external funding. Here is how to change that.

Whoever you are, there is a way to back this.
Grant funders and commissioners
Our external funding strategy sets out where we are, what we would do with investment, and how we would evidence it. It is written for funders rather than for us, and we will send it over the same day you ask.
Businesses
Sponsor a walk or fundraiser, fund our events, or back a specific piece of the work. Everybody is touched by this, which is why local businesses got behind our walk without much persuading.
Individuals
One off or monthly. A small regular amount is worth more to us than almost anything else, because it lets us commit to the meetings and events we hold, consistently.
Four things, in this order.
We are looking for funding to build our organisation: to keep our doors open, and then to open a second one.
- 01
A second group
We are full each week, and growing. A second meeting or a second location is needed, because we never want to turn anyone away.
- 02
Trained facilitators
Members of the group want to run sessions and volunteer. Training them, and safeguarding, is how we grow in the safest way.
- 03
Somebody paid
The charity currently runs on evenings and weekends around two full time jobs. That is not a plan, it is a risk.
- 04
The wellbeing programme
Boxing, sound baths, walks and family events, kept free for everyone who comes.
We are funded, audited and registered.
A Place Called Here is a registered Scottish charity. Our accounts and trustees are on the public register, and our largest funder is a national one.

Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund
Thanks to National Lottery players, the room stays open every Wednesday and stays free for everyone who walks in, including the meal.
Registered Scottish charity SC054556, on the OSCR registerThe businesses who backed the walk
Twenty local sponsors put their name to one hundred kilometres. This is what the next sponsorship conversation starts from.
It works. We have proved it.
Local businesses sponsored our memorial walk. Hundreds of people came. One sponsor dedicated a mile to his son on what would have been his tenth anniversary.
Suicide touches every workplace in Scotland, which is why this is an easier conversation than most charities expect. If your company wants to do something that your own staff will feel, this is it.

Ask us for the funding strategy.
No forms and no gatekeeping. Tell us who you are and we will send it straight over.
